From "The Military Wallet": One of the great
things about running The Military Wallet is being able to meet so many
veterans. It's a pleasure to continue serving such a wonderful group of
people. When I talk to veterans, I try to find out how I can better serve the community by providing informational articles, tutorials, and podcasts. One of the recurring themes I hear from many veterans is not being able to afford retirement. Did you know that only 17% of military members stay in long enough to receive a military pension? That's less than 1 in 5 servicemembers. And a military pension isn't always large enough to live on in retirement years. That's why I'm reaching out to you today. The responsibility of planing your retirement falls on your shoulders. Retirement
investing can seem complicated, but it doesn't have to be. In fact,
there are a lot of great tools that can help you build and manage a
balanced investment portfolio. One of the tools I recently started using
makes it easy to set a target asset allocation, rebalance your
portfolio when necessary, avoid paying high fees, and be efficient with
your taxes. The best part? It's free (and easy) to use. The tool is called FutureAdvisor. It works by helping you determine the best asset allocation for your age and risk tolerance, then it makes recommendations on which trades to make to accomplish your targets. We're not talking about a lot of individual stock trades either - their focus is almost exclusively on low-cost index funds and ETFs. Their #1 goal is to help you make and save money. The portfolio analysis also examines the fees you pay for your investments. If the fees are too high, the tool will suggest a comparable alternative with lower expenses. Finally, the tool will show you in which accounts you should make the trades so you can better avoid paying taxes now. That's a lot of power (and value!) from a free tool! FutureAdvisor Recently Created a New Service for Military Members and Veterans This is where FutureAdvisor sticks out in my mind. They recently launched Operation HomeFront, which is designed to help military members and veterans. It works with the Thrift Savings Plan, which is something many other investment tools don't do well. FutureAdvisor is able to sync with the TSP and help you build your portfolio around it. They are also offering webinars and training videos for military members and veterans. Overall, they are offering a great product for servicemembers and veterans. If you are looking for some tips on how to build and manage your investment portfolio, then this free tool is certainly worth a look.* You can check it out on their site, or you can read more on my site, where I have a more in-depth article explaining how everything works.
*FutureAdvisor's Portfolio Analysis tool is free, and there is no obligation to use the tool. But they also offer a really cool premium version. The best part - the premium version is free for 12 months for active duty servicemembers, or free for 6 months for veterans and members of the Guard or Reserves. I hope you find this tool as helpful as I do! Regards, Ryan Guina The Military Wallet |
